Beachbreak south of Cottesloe with a number of different banks when the swell does actually reach the beach here. Lefts and rights are available around the Leighton surf club and Kiosk. Tends to close out a lot. Waves are usually between ankle and knee height with bigger conditions 2 or 3 times a year.

The reason Leighton Beach doesn't attract much surf is that Rottnest Island takes the brunt of the Indian Ocean swells. The island protects Leighton Beach, and by the time the swells reach the mainland they have usually been tamed. This Perth beach, therefore, is very much a swimmer's beach. The low waves make it relatively safe for young.
